Lola Odujinrin: First African Pilot To Fly Solo Around The World
Lola Odujinrin BLACK YOUNG MAN FROM SOUTH LONDON: First African Pilot To Fly Solo Around The World. It’s so sad that once negative news surfaces about a Nigerian or a black man, the whole world will be ready for nothing less than a negative report, every media house will also want to make a great publicity out of it.But none will be willing to publish every accomplishment by Nigerians or black African. Today we present to you one of our own. Now meet Capt. Lola Odujinrin a Nigerian British pilot who recently made history as the first African pilot to fly solo around the world. On March 29th 2017 Odujinrin 38, successfully landed safely at Washington Dulles International Airport travelling through more than 25 countries and 5 continents a record-breaking accomplishment that is very unusual for a black man, probably the reason why this story has not gone fully global, not even well heard of among the Afro-Caribbean community in the UK where he lives with his family. Presently Lola is ranked as the 115th person in the world to complete the journey. Odujinrin is featured below.

African first solo pilot, Captain Ademilola “Lola” Odujinrin paid a courtesy call on His Imperial Majesty,
Oba Ogunwusi Adeyeye Enitan Ojaja II, the 51st Ooni of Ife on Wednesday, April 12.Odujinrin, a Nigerian born pilot with Air Djibouti,
made history in March 2017 when he became the first African pilot in history to fly solo around the world. Before his historic feat,
‘Lola’ as he is fondly called by friends and colleagues, met Oba Ogunwusi Adeyeye Enitan Ojaja II, on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Dulles
Airport Washington DC in the United States of America (USA), where he was blessed by the Ooni. Ooni Ogunwusi while blessing the solo
pilot then, described Nigeria as a fortunate country with great people capable of changing Africa for better as there is one Nigerian out of
every four black people on earth. After the blessing in June 2016, Captain Odujinrin however, went on to complete the entire circumnavigation
in a Cirrus SR22, stopping in more than 15 countries on five continents, returning to Washington DC, where his journey began back in September 2016.
In a bid to show appreciation, the Captain returned to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun state on Wednesday, April 12 to thank the Ooni.
During the meeting, Odujinrin, who has logged 4 000 hours as a commercial Boeing 737 pilot since his pilot licence six years ago said:
I would like to thank His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ogunwusi Adeyeye Enitan Ojaja II, for believing in the youths and his prayers before my journey.
“You assured me of a successful journey in June 2016, though I was a bit nervous during my journey your words kept me going.
“I am here today to show appreciation for your efforts and to tell you that your prayers were answered”, Captain Odujinrin said as he
presented a portrait to Ooni Ogunwusi. In his response, the Ooni thanked Captain Odujinrin for the visit even as he prayed for
him to achieve greater heights.
